The UK Government launched the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) on 1st April 2022. This scheme aims to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon heating systems by providing homeowners with financial support to upgrade from gas, oil, LPG boilers or direct electric systems.
What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)?
One of the UK’s most significant steps toward tackling climate change is reducing the carbon emissions produced by heating our homes and workplaces. Heating currently accounts for almost 25% of the UK’s total emissions, and replacing fossil-fuel systems with clean, efficient alternatives is vital in meeting national net-zero targets.
To support this shift, the UK Government launched the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) on 1st April 2022. This £450 million scheme aims to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon heating systems by providing homeowners with financial support to upgrade from gas, oil, or LPG boilers.
How Much is the Grant and What Does it Cover?
Under the BUS, eligible homeowners can receive a £5,000 grant towards the cost of replacing their traditional fossil fuel boiler with a qualifying Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) system. This is a direct, upfront discount that is applied at the point of sale — helping make renewable heating more accessible and affordable.
At Aspen HVAC & Renewables, we take care of the entire BUS application process on your behalf. As long as your property meets the insulation and EPC requirements, the £5,000 grant will be deducted from the final cost of your ASHP installation.
